4 Tips To Make Your New Year’s Health Resolutions Stick

4 Tips To Make Your New Year’s Health Resolutions Stick

New year, new you. Or at least, that’s what you tell yourself now. A few months go by and soon you’ll be wondering what happened to your New Year’s resolution.

You’re not alone if you have problems sticking with your goals. Weight loss is the number one New Year’s resolution Americans make every year, but obstacles like stress and self-doubt get in the way.

Here are four tips you can use to help you stick to your New Year’s resolution to get healthier and maybe even lose some weight.

  1. Start out small. It’s all too easy to go all out when you want to make a big change. But when you try to do too much at once, you can overwhelm yourself. The last thing you want is to end up back at square one. Start small and take baby steps toward your goal. You’ve got all year and all of next year, too. New Year’s resolutions don’t expire.
  2. Eat out someplace healthy. You don’t need to eat out somewhere greasy just because you don’t feel like cooking. You don’t need to call it a cheat day, either. You can find a South Beach restaurant with food delivery that’s as healthy as anything in your fridge. Craving authentic Latin American cuisine? Get rotisserie chicken delivered. Chicken is the number one protein eaten in the U.S. and one of the healthiest.
  3. Do exercise you actually like. Exercise isn’t a punishment. If you don’t like the exercise you’re doing, find something else. Not everyone enjoys jogging and not everyone likes the elliptical. Try out different sports you think you might be interested in. The more fun you have, the more likely you’ll stick with your exercising goal.
  4. Change one behavior at a time. Don’t try to eat healthily, exercise every day, and get up earlier all at the same time if you weren’t doing all of that before. These are several resolutions disguised as one big resolution: get healthy. Split them back up into small resolutions and, as we said in the first point, start out small.
